La France 93

Chartered  on  December  16,  1992  under the Jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Masons of the District of Columbia, La France Lodge No.93 presently has eighty members, of whom about forty are residing in the Greater Washington DC area. The members come from all over the world , most of them French-speaking.

The major focus of the lodge’s work is to “free and broaden the mind” through a peaceful, inspiring and pleasurable lodge atmosphere and significant Masonic substance.

The First Objective and theme is “Building the Inner Temple,” conducive to self-realization. This requires: (a) Calming the mind by making the Lodge a sacred space through an inspirational environment of harmony and beauty, freeing the mind from the stress and agitation of the profane life, and elevating consciousness in its search for the Truth; and (b) Masonic education through knowledge of the various Masonic traditions in the world, their symbols and rituals, and the perennial human quest for the Truth across cultures and throughout ages, with a view to finding the common core of Mankind’’s wisdom and compassion.

The Second Objective and theme is universal human communion by asking ourselves: “How can we be useful to Society?” This involves establishing close bonds with sister lodges, Masonic organizations and Society, locally and internationally, with a view to shaping a better world. The first target of La France Lodge in this respect is bridging American and French- speaking Masonry   by   facilitating   mutual knowledge of the specific features and merits of American and French Masonic traditions, and establishing a meeting point in the Nation’s capital by introducing visiting French-speaking Brothers to local Masonic resources. Another target is to sensitize Masonic society to the direst human distress.

To accomplish all of this, La France Lodge works in French and in English through three major avenues:

1. The study of rituals, symbolism and meditation.

2. Organizing forums and major presentations in English, some of them open to non Masons, with question & answer sessions.

3. The twinning with specific foreign lodges to share mutual Masonic experience:

  • Bartholdi No. 500, Vidauban (France), GLNF, 1994
  • Félix Eboue Lodge No. 188, Paris (France), GLNF, 2001
  • La Foret Sacree Lodge No. 9, Porto-Novo (Benin), GLB, 2001
  • La Bannière Étoilée No. 900, Neuilly/Seine (France), GLNF, 2002
  • France 1917 No. 7, Paris (France), GLNF, 2004
  • Tolérance No 2, Libreville (Gabon), GLG, 2007
  • Aymeric de Carlat No. 911, Espalion (France), GLNF, 2019

The ultimate objective of La France Lodge is to help Masons in their search for Truth. This leads to enlightenment through higher levels of knowledge and consciousness about the essential reality and meaning of human existence in the Universe, the presence of Deity within Man, and the building of a society where justice, freedom and love prevail.
